I got home this morning, and instead of relaxing like a normal person I started a cleaning frenzy. The sudden realization that today is Sunday and it's all I've got until Monday School/Work/Bus/Bleargh starts up hit me and that, coupled with the further knowledge that any sitting would sieze up my left knee (which hurts from this morning's run), started me on a neatness fit. When that was done I showered and dragged the small child with me to Trader Joe's (after bribing him with Sbux) and now we are watching the last half of Star Wars, Episode 6. I just got up to get a glass of water and I am limping; I think I'll grab some more advil.
I am also mentally listing out all of the stuff I'm going to donate in the next week.
My parents are moving their stuff this weekend, which means I lose a guest room (but gain a SEWING room), and a couple of bookcases. The bookcases will be replaced by Ikea.
You noticed I said SEWING, right, and not craft?
The day my H'ween cards were received, I got reports of a powdery like substance in the cards. Turns out the nifty glass-ball-like thingies I used to make it look like the cards had skull papers bolted to them became powder when run through whatever automated mailing system our local USPS uses. In short, the cards looked less cool than they did when they went out and significantly less cool than I had intended; my paper stuff never turns out the way I want it. I figured out why, too: I like to sew and stitch because there is a pattern and a plan, and any customization revolves around color or type of fabric. But a kilt is a kilt is a kilt, there is no "winging it". Papercrafts, on the other hand, tend to be much more creative. Me? I'm not so much on the "winging it" creativity.
So I'm donating my fairly sizeable stamp collection and accoutrements (and paper) to anyone who wants it. I'll stick with quilting and alterations and needlepoint and possibly knitting.
Alex didn't move my plants as requested, X left C's jacket and backpack at school Friday, and the rodents are back. This is the yin to the yang of 4 days of fun in Mexico (2 days of un-fun in Mexico thanks to Montezuma hitting GH in a very real and doctor-fixed way).
Next posts: The Story of La Princessa, A Tale of Two Choads, Amping Up For Legal Eagles, and Appliance Envy.
I have had an exceptionally lovely weekend.
First, I got to pick the C up early from school as he had a Dr.McK appt. We have some new tools, including hearing about PAVE which should help us with our upcoming IEP meeting. I like progress, I like tools.
Then, GH and I got to have a rare early evening alone, checking out the Thomas Street Bistro (which was recommended by YELP, neither of us had been). Wonderful food! Greek-Middle-Eastern vibe, small cozy atmosphere, practically obsequious staff that lets you have a quiet talk. Then we checked out the Seattle Weaver's Guild annual sale (mom does crafts for them) which was a lesson in OMG I can't handle any more projects.
Then we went home and watched some Eddie Izzard (Circle) because I need that on a Friday sometimes :).
Yesterday I cooked a mass of mexican food and decorated and cleaned, had a smallish soiree (about 14ppl) and sent home my nearest and dearest with a mass of extra food. I managed to sleep in until about 10 (it had been a long day) and then after a decent breakfast headed out on a walk with GH and the dogs through the semi-foofy neighborhood to the north. We rated houses and their H'ween decor, and saw some really well done ones. But mostly we enjoyed the changing leaves and the sporadic tugs of Kumi (constant yank forward) and Thumper (random dart to the left) for a mile and a half or so.
Then GH left and I ran 10 miles. 10.04, if you want to split rabbits, but I managed to do it. After the first 3 miles I got into my groove and at 5 I Gu'd up (Espresso flavor, which still does not get me high -- like it did to Ali -- but was yummy and effective nonetheless). I have showered and washed my hair and icy-hotted my legs and feet (they're gonna feel it later, I will bet) and am enjoying some "me" time before the C arrives. Sadly I have not made my H'ween cards yet, but I shall get to that before I go to Mexico.
In. 5. Days. !
I just wanted to let him know that I have found satisfaction.
Despite my pumpkin having inexplicably rotted between the patch and home (it was unbreached, at least by me), I managed to successfully carve two designs -- both of the C's creation -- into his pumpkin. I am hooked and wish I had got more; but I shall do that next week.
I really want to start a project but I am too tired to finish one; I think maybe it is time for this pumpkin to go to bed.
I had a good humpday, it being a day of aging and all. I ate pizza and drank wine (you have to if you're Italian otherwise they take your mafia membership away) and watched David Attenborough discuss monkey aggression and deep sea creatures.
I did get the outdoor decorations up, so that means right about now my new neighbors are not only bemoaning that they closed on a house BEFORE a large market crash (and thereby could've probably got a better deal) but now they're across the street from a wacko with her own graveyard.
I completely and utterly failed to carve pumpkins. Fortunately, today is a new day and the pumpkins shall be carved, oh yes. I think. If I can remember.
My IEP meeting is on the 18th of November, which is a very long time to wait for a plan or any form of progress. Tomorrow we go see Dr McK so we can at least be Doing Something. Once the doctor appointment is over it is officially the start of the weekend for me, as I have a weaver's guild affair to attend and some holiday cards to make and probably decoupage some egg cartons. I am now saving my embroidery and book club book for the plane, which I shall be on in 9 days.
Oh, I'm working for the weekend all right. Next weekend.
OMG It's only 10 days to Halloween and I just let it slip away... so. much. to. do.
I have to decorate my house and yard. I got a bunch of decor from BB earlier in the year -- bones! I have bones! -- and of course I need to put the graveyard out. (Is that like putting the cat out?) This year I am to be a Dead Bride, in my original wedding dress and skull makeup and flowers and so forth. I believe GH is going to be a Dead Priest. I have issues.
The C, however, changes his mind about forty times daily as to his costume. The Hulk, Ironman, Indiana Jones, Any Star Wars Person Who Ran Around With a Gun or Lightsaber, and possibly David Attenborough (no, I'm not going to send him door to door with a sweet british accent).
I patiently await my purple vellum that I ordered off of the internets -- I didn't want to go back to the paperstore, yes I am lazy -- to do my annual cards.
And, in completely unrelated news, I have discovered it takes one length of floss to split-stitch embroider 1/2 of a dragonfly. Someday that will be a Jeopardy! question.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
Lovely evening had by most, if not all. Photographic evidence to be supplied shortly. Special thanks to:
- CC & McGuyv & Alixito & Surfboy for showing up early and helping
- Ali & Doug & The GoldenChild for showing up early and also helping, particularly Ali for helping force me into my corset.
- CC & McGuyv & Powerade for helping with late night cleanup
- CC & McGuyv for breakfast :)
Things I discovered last night, and this morning:
- There is a particular tuck method with a corset that involves the tuck-or and the tuck-ee having a certain fondness for eachother
- Alixito has no hesitation to reach into my cleavage and bring it up and forward, in said corset: I spent most of the evening about 1" away from a Janet Jackson episode
- My costumes of late seem to come from the land of Black, Alternative, and Tight: next year I could either be a dominatrix or a Suicide Girl.
- Q really, really loves my dog. Really.
- Teri is low key on pain meds and makes for a hot Pirate
- Cyn looks a lot like Ursula Andress
- Powerade looks better in eye makup than I do
- TheGoldenChild is an exceptionally patient small child with rowdy noisy adults
- Polar Bear costumes look funny all the way on, but even funnier with the top of it off: what is half polar-bear, half man? (A minotaur is half man half bull, a centaur is half man half horse, so a Bear, being greek Ursus, would mean this is probably ArctoUrsotaur. Sad that I really wanted to solve that right now.)
- Red Riding hood is popular... and hot.
- Spanish moss = great decoration = horribly messy to clean up
- A pissed off dog can eat an entire pyrex full of cookies after chewing through the lid and still expect someone to play rope with her
- Now it is known that I can make my own coffee. Dammit! No more coffee service.
- A box of condoms left on the bed initiates more conversation than any other thing.
All of the outdoor decor is up and out -- and groceries, check. I'm leaving the indoor decor to my Designated Helpers, which is CC & McGuyv & Alixito. Yay for help :)
I think I overdid it at the gym again, I felt really good while on the elliptical machine but now my lower back is doing major ouch factor. Time to hit the Advil... and then off to Lovers for something for my costume.
Today's song is "Well Thought Out, Twinkles" by the Silversun Pickups.
At this point GtGD has either discovered the video-eating virus I sent (from a different email, 'course) (i <3 supercool geek friends) and either 1. activated it and discovered the horrific results or 2. it's gone into his spam and it hasn't done anything. I was all happy 'cuz I hadn't heard from him and this morning I get up, retrieve my cell from the car, and discover 3 (3!!!) messages -- voicemail -- from him. WTF??? We are officially at two weeks since bailage WITH a note explaining GRR and incommunicado since then, WTF is he still calling me for? Oh, and all the calls? between 10:43 and 10:51. That's right. Because leaving messages that are necessarily 2.66 minutes apart is *so* effective.
I, dear readers, am headed to the gym, to use my endorphin high to get rid of this angst. And then I'm getting coffee, for I have a Very Big Day of cooking & decorating: yay for Halloween!
